60 Emiratis chosen to drive innovation in UAE government sector
In line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, the Public Sector Innovation Degree Program is one of the major initiatives of the United Arab Emirates. aimed at fostering innovation within the government sector.
Organized by the MBRCGI in partnership with the University of Cambridge, the program supports the development of Emirati innovators by sharing the knowledge, skills and expertise needed to improve public sector and government work, while increasing competitiveness, overall government agility and resilience.
The main objective of the degree program is to train the next generation of innovation leaders in the public sector. Launched in 2015, the degree includes an intensive program that includes training, workshops and field trips to introduce government employees to concepts that can improve the culture of innovation in their entities.
Participants are also tasked with working in teams to design and develop a capstone project that can solve government sector challenges.
The program has five main pillars, namely Definition and Exploration, Concept Generation, Agile Innovation, Pivot and Transformation, and Execution. During the program, participants are challenged to come up with innovative solutions to a certain challenge that can be implemented within six months of graduation.
Huda Al Hashimi, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Strategic Affairs, reiterated the vision and goals of the Government of the United Arab Emirates, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which aims to build the capacity of next generations of innovators. She added, “These visionaries will contribute to the empowerment of government entities and efficient new services that will have a positive impact on society.”
“The Public Sector Innovation Diploma embodies the idea that innovation is the key driver of the UAE’s competitiveness and growth. The launch of the sixth cohort is part of the government’s vision to integrate innovation into the daily operations of their entities. The UAE government empowers the community by providing them with the tools to create and continuously scale innovative government services,” she added.
Around 300 civil servants have obtained the Public Sector Innovation Diploma since its launch in 2015.
